National Day Calendar approved National Roadie Day in 2025 to be observed each year on May 19. The first annual observance in 2025 was timed around what would have been the 100th birthday of Benjamin Holiday Dorcy III — widely nicknamed “Lovey” and often described in music press and NDC materials as an early touring roadie whose career touched country and popular-music legends. NDC and related coverage associate Dorcy’s birth date with May 19, 1925, and note work alongside artists such as Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Elvis Presley, and others across a long career. Dorcy died in 2017; the calendar day is framed as both a personal centenary marker and an annual thank-you to live crews.

NDC states that National Roadie Day was created by Lovey, LLC, Luna Wolf Records, LLC, and uniphigood, LLC. The day is informal. It is not a U.S. federal holiday.
